With Halloween just around the corner, South Huron Fire Chief Jeremy Becker is reminding residents to be careful with decorations and costumes to prevent fires and injuries.
Electric lights are generally safer, but Chief Becker warns that they can still get hot.
When it comes to costumes, Becker recommends avoiding flammable materials and keeping costumes short enough to prevent tripping. Bright, reflective, and flame-resistant materials are best.
To keep walkways and porches safe for trick-or-treaters, Becker recommends using outdoor lights and removing obstacles.
In the worst-case scenario, if a costume or decoration catches fire, Becker has an important reminder.
Chief Becker encouraged everyone to enjoy Halloween while taking simple precautions to stay safe.
