With Halloween just around the corner, the Ontario Provincial Police are reminding families to keep safety top of mind while celebrating.
Constable Craig Soldan says the biggest concern each year is visibility and safety on the roads.
He reminds parents to make sure costumes fit properly and allow children to see clearly through masks.
Bright colours or reflective tape are encouraged to help drivers spot trick-or-treaters in the dark. Carrying glow sticks or flashlights can also make children more visible.
Police are asking families to plan ahead and make sure kids don’t go out alone. Children should stick to sidewalks, visit well-lit homes, and avoid crossing the street in the middle of the block or between parked cars.
Soldan also has a message for drivers.
Parents are also reminded to check all treats .
He mentioned police will be out and about, making sure everyone has a fun, safe, and memorable Halloween night.
