With snow officially here, Norfolk County says its crews are fully prepared to respond to snow, ice, and freezing temperatures across more than 4,200 kilometres of roads this winter.
Under normal weather conditions, roads are cleared based on Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards, but when severe weather is forecasted or underway, County officials may declare a Significant Weather Event.
This declaration suspends regular plowing timelines and signals that road conditions may be hazardous.
During these events, residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and give crews time to complete cleanup safely.
Parking rules are strictly enforced throughout the winter.
The County’s bylaw requires all vehicles to be removed from roads during or after snowfalls to allow snowplows and sanders to do their work efficiently.
Vehicles left on the street may face a $75 ticket or towing fees costing several hundred dollars more.
Norfolk County also reminds residents that they are responsible for clearing snow windrows — the piles that form at the end of driveways — as well as sidewalks beside their property by noon the day after a storm.
Officials are reminding residents that staying informed can make a big difference when storms hit.
