Huron County OPP is reminding dog owners about their responsibilities after several reports of aggressive dogs in recent months. Incidents have been reported in Goderich, Bluewater, Central Huron, and South Huron. Some attacks have injured pedestrians, harmed dogs, and even caused injuries to OPP officers responding to calls.
Dog ownership is governed by the Dog Owner Liability Act (DOLA), and serious cases may fall under the Criminal Code of Canada. Municipalities also have specific rules in their by-laws, which can be found on local government websites.
The OPP asks anyone who encounters an aggressive dog or a situation that could put the public at risk to report it by calling 1-888-310-1122.
