The Haldimand-Norfolk Concert Band is bringing festive cheer to communities across Haldimand and Norfolk counties this holiday season with their Christmas concert series, Hearth, Health and Home for the Holidays.
We spoke with Patricia Misner, a longtime member of the band.
Audiences can enjoy performances filled with classic Christmas cheer and some variety to spice things up.
Founded in 1955 by Dutch immigrants as the Jarvis Christian Band Crescendo, the ensemble has evolved over the decades from a brass band to a full concert band incorporating brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments.
Originally called the Jarvis Concert Band in the early 1980s, the band adopted its current name in the 1990s to better reflect its growing membership, which now spans teens to seniors from Tillsonburg, Guelph, Hamilton, Dunnville, and other surrounding communities.
She says because most of them are adults doing this for the love of music, you can really feel the passion when they play a piece.
This year’s Christmas concerts include:
November 20th – 7:00 PM: South Cayuga Community Church, Dunnville
November 27th – 7:30 PM: Faith Centennial United Church, Selkirk
December 11th – 7:30 PM: St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Simcoe
December 12th – 7:00 PM: Hagersville Santa Claus Parade at Hagersville United Church Hall
Tickets are available at the door for most concerts, and children are always welcome. The Haldimand-Norfolk Concert Band promises an evening of festive music, fun, and holiday spirit for the whole family.
The band is also currently seeking new members, specifically a drummer, which we will talk about more in a future What’s Good Norfolk segment.
