The Weather Service has issued a Yellow Watch for snow squalls in the region, starting late Wednesday evening and continuing into Thursday afternoon. Lake effect snow off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay is expected to bring 15 to 30 cm of snow in some areas, with sudden and significant reductions in visibility due to heavy snow and blowing snow.
The snow will be accompanied by northwesterly winds gusting 50 to 60 km/h, which may create drifting and dangerously low visibility. Conditions are expected to improve by Thursday evening, but snowfall amounts and the locations of the squalls could vary widely across the region.
Travelers are advised to prepare for rapidly changing road conditions and possible road closures. Visibility may drop to near zero at times, so caution is urged when driving. Residents should monitor local weather updates and take necessary safety precautions.
