A winter storm is bringing heavy snow and blowing snow to parts of Huron County this morning. Environment Canada issued a moderate-impact alert for Exeter, Goderich, Bluewater and southern Huron County, with high confidence in the forecast.
The weather agency says the region can expect between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow, along with reduced visibility during periods of heavy snow and blowing snow. The snowfall is expected to ease this afternoon, changing to scattered flurries or light drizzle from southwest to northeast. There is also a chance of freezing drizzle.
The storm is being driven by an Alberta clipper moving across the area. After the system passes, lake effect snow squalls are expected to form southeast of Lake Huron tonight and continue into Thursday. Some places could see more snow from these bands.
Environment Canada warns that travel may be difficult. Roads and sidewalks will become snow-covered and slippery, and visibility may drop at times. Drivers are urged to give themselves extra time.
