The Municipality of South Huron is making a change that will be welcomed by many local pet owners.
The municipality has announced that it is ending its dog licensing and registration program. Starting January 1st, 2026, residents will no longer need to purchase or renew dog tags for their dogs.
Municipal officials say this change only applies to dog licensing. All other parts of the Animal Control By-Law will still be in effect. This includes rules around dog kennels, the number of animals allowed, cat control, feeding wildlife and penalties for by-law violations.
The municipality is reminding residents to continue being responsible pet owners and to follow all remaining animal control rules to help keep the community safe and enjoyable for everyone.
