Police say illegal drugs and cash were seized during a search in South Huron last week, and two local residents are now facing charges.
According to the Huron-Perth Ontario Provincial Police, officers executed a search warrant on Wednesday, December 17th, at a home on Main Street South in Exeter. The search followed an investigation by the OPP Community Street Crimes Unit.
Police were assisted by officers from Wellington County OPP, Grey-Bruce OPP, the West Region OPP K-9 Unit, and the West Region Emergency Response Team.
During the search, officers seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, along with offence-related items and Canadian currency. Police estimate the total value of the drugs seized is about $36,000. Items seized during the investigation, including scales, cell phones, and cash, were valued at about $1,275.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old, of South Huron has been charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. Police say he was held for a bail hearing and later released with a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
A 38-year-old, also of South Huron, is facing the same three charges. Police say she was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody, with a later court date scheduled in Goderich.
Police remind the public that all charges have not been proven in court and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
