UPDATE: 9:08 AM
South Bruce OPP says Highway 21 between Kincardine and Amberley, and Highway 9 between Kincardine and Walkerton is now open. Highway 21 between Kincardine and Port Elgin is in the process of reopening.
Ontario Provincial Police in West Region are reminding residents that several roads remain closed as a winter storm continues to cause dangerous driving conditions.
Police say heavy snow, blowing snow, and poor visibility are making travel unsafe in many areas. As of early this morning, multiple roads across Huron and Perth counties have been closed to protect public safety. In Huron County, closures include parts of Bruce Road 7, County Road 83 between Bluewater Highway and Exeter, Highway 4 between Exeter and Clinton and between Wingham and Teeswater, and Highway 21 from Amberley to Port Elgin. In Perth County, closures include Line 33, Wilmot Easthope Road, sections of Highway 23, and parts of Perth Road 107 and Perth Road 131.
OPP are asking drivers to avoid travelling unless it is absolutely necessary. Conditions can change quickly, and even short trips can become dangerous. Police say staying off the roads helps keep drivers safe and allows emergency crews and road workers to do their jobs.
Residents are encouraged to check Municipal 511 or Ontario 511 for the latest road closure updates and to monitor Environment Canada for current weather alerts. Police say updates will be shared as conditions change.
With winter weather continuing to impact the region, OPP remind everyone to stay safe and avoid travel whenever possible.
