Police say quick action helped keep roads safe after an impaired driving incident in the Municipality of West Perth.
On January 5th, just after 5:00 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were conducting an unrelated traffic stop when they saw a vehicle hit a snowbank on Perth Line 34, west of Mitchell. Police say the vehicle continued to drive in a dangerous way before leaving the road and striking another snowbank.
Officers attempted to stop the driver, who was later arrested. A 20-year-old man from South Huron has been charged with several offences, including impaired driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and failing to follow a probation order.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford. He is also facing a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, a seven-day vehicle impoundment, and additional towing and storage fees.
Police say incidents like this highlight the importance of impaired driving enforcement. Perth County OPP remind drivers that impaired driving puts everyone at risk and will not be tolerated. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is urged to call 9-1-1, as that call could help prevent a serious crash or save a life.
