The Bluewater Recycling Association has announced exciting updates to what can be recycled in the blue bin.
Residents can now recycle clean Styrofoam, food and beverage cartons, and aluminum items. Accepted Styrofoam items include rinsed meat trays, takeout containers, foam cups, plates, bowls, and packaging used to protect electronics. All foam must be clean and dry, with no food, grease, or tape.
Food and beverage cartons will also be accepted, including juice and milk cartons, beverage cartons of all kinds, coffee creamer cartons, sugar cartons, and soup or sauce cartons such as broth boxes and tetra paks. Cartons should be empty, clean, and kept with their lids on. Flattening them helps save space in the bin.
Aluminum items will also be added to the blue bin. These include aluminum trays, pie plates, foil, and frozen food trays (aluminum only). Residents are encouraged to ball up clean aluminum foil into fist-sized balls to help with sorting at the recycling facility.
Bluewater Recycling says these changes will help improve recycling results.
