Huron County’s business community had a busy and transformative 2025, according to Colin Carmichael, Executive Director of the Huron Chamber of Commerce.
One of the highlights of the year was the creation of the Huron Economic Response Task Force. Formed early in 2025 by the Huron, South Huron, and Bayfield Chambers, the task force helped local businesses navigate changes in trade with the United States. The group collected important resources and funding information in one place online and held weekly meetings to keep businesses informed during a period of rapidly changing tariffs.
Carmichael also reflected on lessons learned during the year. Many local businesses reviewed their finances and strategies, learning more about how to operate in uncertain conditions.
Looking ahead to 2026, Carmichael said the county is well positioned for growth.
The Chamber also plans to continue hosting key events, including the Huron Marine and Economic Forum, which focuses on the Great Lakes shipping industry and its impact on the local economy.
Carmichael closed with a simple message for residents.
