Respiratory illness season is underway, and Huron Perth Public Health is reminding residents that simple steps can help keep the community healthy.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen says actions like getting vaccinated, washing hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, wearing a mask when needed, and staying home when sick can make a big difference. She says these steps help slow the spread of illness and reduce pressure on the healthcare system.
Flu activity remains high across Ontario, including in Huron and Perth counties. Residents can find up-to-date information on influenza, COVID-19, and RSV through Public Health Ontario’s Respiratory Virus Tool. Local outbreak information for long-term care homes, retirement homes, and hospitals is also posted on the Huron Perth Public Health website.
Public Health says it is not too late to get vaccinated. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone six months of age and older. Vaccines help protect against serious illness and hospital visits. Residents are encouraged to contact their doctor or local pharmacy for more information.
More information about preventing respiratory illness and available immunizations can be found on the Huron Perth Public Health website.
