The Royal Canadian Legion is marking a major milestone in 2026 by celebrating its 100th anniversary. To kick off the centennial year, the Legion is offering free membership to all new members who join in 2026.
The Legion says the offer is a way to welcome more Canadians into an organization that has spent a century supporting Veterans and their families. New members will join a national group with more than 270,000 members across Canada.
The Legion was founded in 1926, following the First World War. While its work began with advocacy for Veterans, the organization has grown into a strong community presence. Today, the Legion continues to support Veterans and their families, lead Remembrance efforts, and serve local communities through more than 1,350 branches across the country.
To mark the centennial year, the Legion will host special events at the local, provincial, and national levels. Its official 100th anniversary will take place on July 17th, with celebrations planned in Ottawa and communities across Canada. Stay tuned next week for our interview with Legion President, Barb Willard.
