Environment Canada has issued an orange weather warning for Exeter, Goderich, Bluewater, and Southern Huron County as a blizzard is expected later today.
Forecasters say blizzard conditions are likely this afternoon and into the evening, with snow squalls continuing into the night. Strong west winds gusting between 60 and 80 kilometres an hour will combine with heavy blowing snow, creating near-zero visibility at times. Wind chill values are expected to fall between minus 20 and minus 25.
Snowfall amounts of 10 to 25 centimetres are expected, with higher totals possible in some areas. Drifting snow will be worst in open and exposed locations.
Travel conditions are expected to be very dangerous, and some roads could become impassable. Residents are being advised to avoid travel and outdoor activities if possible. Anyone who must be on the roads is encouraged to have an emergency plan and proper winter supplies.
Conditions are expected to improve later this evening as winds begin to weaken.
