Police say a large drug investigation has led to 5 people being charged after search warrants were carried out in Middlesex County, Huron County, and the City of London.
On January 22nd, officers with the Elgin–Middlesex OPP Community Street Crime Unit, along with OPP canine and emergency response teams, Middlesex County OPP, and the London Police Service Emergency Response Unit, executed search warrants at several locations. These included homes on Oriole Drive in London, William Street in Lucan, and Shoreline Drive, Bluewater Highway, and Redford Drive in Huron County.
During the searches, police seized illegal drugs believed to be cocaine, ecstasy, and hydromorphone. Officers also found two replica firearms, ammunition, and a large amount of Canadian cash.
As a result of the investigation, several people have been charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
A 47-year-old from Dashwood, is charged with possession of proceeds of crime under five thousand dollars and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
A 41-year-old from Lucan, is charged with failing to comply with a release order, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of an opioid for the purpose of trafficking.
A 33-year-old from London, is charged with possession of proceeds of crime over five thousand dollars, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of an opioid for the purpose of trafficking.
All three were held in custody for bail hearings.
A 73-year-old from Exeter, is charged with possession of proceeds of crime under five thousand dollars and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
A 70-year-old from Lucan is also charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The 73-year-old and 70-year-old accused from Lucan were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in London at a later date.
Police say the investigation is part of ongoing efforts to address drug trafficking in the region.
