Young people in South Huron who are thinking about running for municipal council in the October 2026 election will soon have a Attachment to learn more about the process.
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario, also known as AMO, is offering a series of workshops designed for youth who are interested in municipal politics. The sessions are meant to help participants understand what it takes to become a candidate and how to run a successful campaign.
The workshops will be led by three current municipal leaders: Natasha Salonen, Mayor of the Township of Wilmot, Cam Wales, a councillor with the City of Brockville, and Aidan Kallioinen, a councillor with the Town of Espanola. They will share their own experiences and offer practical advice for young people considering public office.
Topics will include what to expect when running as a candidate, how to campaign effectively, how to communicate with the community, and ways to build confidence as a young leader.
The sessions will take place online on Wednesday, February 18th, Wednesday, March 11th, and Wednesday, April 15th. Each workshop will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
More information and registration details are available on the Association of Municipalities of Ontario website.
