The Coldest Night of the Year walk is coming up on February 28th in South Huron, and organizers are inviting the community to take part once again.
Andrea Loohuizen, a volunteer with the Coldest Night of the Year, says the walk brings people together to support neighbours who are experiencing homelessness and the local agencies that help them.
Loohuizen says the walk is important because needs in the community continue to change.
She adds that raising awareness is just as important as raising money.
The event is hosted by the United Way, and all funds raised support United Way partner agencies that work to fight homelessness.
The Coldest Night of the Year walk is not just happening in Exeter and South Huron. Walks will also take place in other communities across Huron and Perth counties, including Goderich, Wingham, Stratford, and St. Marys. The event is held across Canada on the same day.
In Exeter, participants will meet at Christian Reformed Church at 4:00 p.m.
Loohuizen says one of the most meaningful parts of the walk is seeing the community come together.
Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to register, bring a friend, and help make a difference on the Coldest Night of the Year.
