Residents across Southern Ontario felt the ground shake late Tuesday night as a small earthquake rippled through the region.
According to Earthquakes Canada, a magnitude 3.7 tremor struck just before 11 p.m. Eastern Time, with its epicentre located north of Toronto near the community of Orillia. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately five kilometres.
Thousands of people reported feeling the shaking. More than 2,000 responses were submitted through the agency’s “Did you feel it?” feature, with reports spanning a wide area — from Kitchener in the west, across Toronto, east to Belleville, and as far south as Niagara Falls.
No injuries or damage were immediately reported. However, historical data shows the same region has experienced two earthquakes of similar strength over the past 25 years.
