The Ontario government is approving access to six new life-extending cancer treatments.
Medications being fast-tracked include those for lung and prostate cancer, a combination therapy for colorectal and liver cancer as well as treatments for lymphoma and a type of leukemia.
Canadian patients currently wait nearly two years to access new publicly funded medicines – a full year longer than patients in other developed countries.
Ontario expects to fast-track additional cancer drug approvals in the coming months.
