It’s Crabby Joe’s game day. The Exeter Hawks face off against Alymer tonight at 8:00pm at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter.
Exeter Hawks goaltender Maddox Nazwaski says his journey in hockey has taken him across Ontario, but he is proud to now call Exeter home.
Nazwaski, who wears number 30, was born in the Niagara Region.
His time as a forward didn’t last as he decided to switch positions.
He has been a goaltender ever since.
Over his junior career, Nazwaski has played for several teams. He split his first season between the Strathroy Rockets and the Petrolia Flyers. He later moved on to play Junior B in Caledon in the now GOHL. After that, he spent time with North Middlesex before being traded to Lucan, where he finished the season. He began this year in Lucan before being traded to the Exeter Hawks.
The 21-year-old says he is in his final year of junior eligibility and is making the most of it. Since arriving in Exeter later in the season, he says his teammates and coaches have been welcoming and supportive.
Nazwaski says one of his favourite things about the Hawks organization is its professionalism.
He also had high praise for Hawks fans. Having previously played in Exeter as a visiting goalie, he says the atmosphere in the arena is electric.
With three games in four days to close out the regular season, Nazwaski says the team’s focus will be on getting rest, starting strong, and playing solid defence. He adds that the team is ready to give fans an exciting finish to the season.
Nazwaski says he is looking forward to seeing the stands full and appreciates the continued support from the Exeter community.
The Hawks are back in action on Sunday when they host Petrolia and Monday when Lucan rolls in to town.
Go tonight and cheer on your hometown Hawks! Come before or after the game and fuel up at Crabby Joe’s in Exeter.
