On March 3rd, skywatchers will have the chance to see a total lunar eclipse.
The full eclipse will be visible from beginning to end in the Pacific and Mountain time zones. In areas farther east, the moon will set below the horizon before the eclipse is completely over.
A lunar eclipse is safe to watch with the naked eye. During the event, sunlight bends through the Earth’s atmosphere, causing the full Worm Moon to slowly turn a deep orange colour.
In the Eastern Time Zone, the eclipse will begin at about 4:50 a.m. Mid-eclipse is expected at 6:33 a.m., and the moon will set at 6:39 a.m.
People who want to watch are encouraged to find a clear view of the western horizon before sunrise to see as much of the eclipse as possible.
