OPP are warning residents about a new fraud scheme that has been reported in nearby communities.
Police say a vehicle owner who was trying to sell a truck was approached by three men who said they were interested in buying it. While they were looking at the truck, two of the men distracted the owner. At the same time, the third man appeared to be doing a normal walk-around inspection. Investigators say the suspect allegedly poured a black liquid into the wheel wells, tailpipe and engine oil compartment. Police believe this may be done to damage or tamper with a vehicle so the suspects can try to lower the selling price.
Police are reminding residents to meet potential buyers in safe, public places and to bring another person with them when showing a vehicle. They also advise sellers to check their vehicle carefully before and after any viewing. Any suspicious activity should be reported right away.
