Artemis Huron is marking International Women’s Day with a special community fundraiser on March 8th.
The organization, formerly known as the Huron Women’s Shelter, is partnering with several local cafes to support women and children on their journey to safety and healing.
Genelle Reid, Fund Development Coordinator with Artemis Huron told myFM the details.
Reid explained its a simple way to start conversations.
Participating cafes include Cait’s Cafe and The Den Juice Co. in Goderich, Shop Bike Coffee in Bayfield, Purple Bike Cafe in Brussels, The Sawyer Cafe in Exeter, and Havasu Coffee in Zurich. Some locations are taking part on March 8th, while others are supporting the fundraiser on select days earlier that week.
For those who cannot attend in person, donations can also be made online through the Artemis Huron website. Funds raised will go directly toward the organization’s core programs.
Reid says International Women’s Day is both a time to recognize progress and a reminder that more work is needed.
She added that the strong support from local businesses shows how much the community cares about the safety and well-being of women and families.
Anyone with questions or concerns about violence can contact Artemis Huron’s toll-free support line at 1-800-265-5506 to speak with a qualified counselor.
Organizers say even small actions, like buying a coffee, can help build a safer and more supportive community for everyone.
