Artemis Huron is being recognized as the myFM community partner for the month of April, and Genelle Reid, Fund Development Coordinator, says the organization is thankful for the support and the chance to connect with more people in the community.
Reid explains that safety is about more than just providing a place to stay.
Reid noted Artemis Huron offers a wide range of services.
They also offer a 24-hour confidential support line. People can call anytime if they are worried about themselves or someone else. The line can help with safety planning, housing questions, counselling and referrals to other programs.
Counselling is another key service, including support for both gender-based violence and sexual violence. Programs are available for women at any stage of their healing. Reid says the organization also helps women navigate important systems like housing, court services, healthcare and employment through its transition program.
Looking ahead, Artemis Huron is preparing for Sexual Violence Awareness Month in May.
As part of that campaign, local businesses are being encouraged to hang red dresses in their storefronts to honour missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
More information about programs, events and how to get involved can be found on Artemis Huron’s website and social media pages.
