Bluewater Recycling Association is reminding residents that yard waste should not be placed in recycling bins as spring cleanup gets underway.
Items like leaves, grass clippings, branches, and soil need to be disposed of separately, as they are not accepted through regular recycling programs.
Officials say there are several environmentally friendly ways to deal with yard waste. Residents can compost materials at home to create nutrient-rich soil for their gardens, or take advantage of local yard waste pickup programs offered by many municipalities. There are also designated drop-off locations available in some areas.
Mulching is another option, allowing grass clippings and leaves to break down naturally and return nutrients to the lawn.
The association says proper disposal of yard waste helps reduce landfill use and supports healthier, greener communities.
