Lambton College has closed its Sarnia campus today following a serious incident early Friday morning.
According to Sarnia Police Emergency services were called to the main campus just before 1 a.m. after reports of gunfire during a Student Administrative Council event. Police say three people were found injured when officers arrived.
A 20-year-old man from Sarnia was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later passed away. Two others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Sarnia Police have now classified the case as a homicide investigation. Officers remain on scene and say no arrests have been made at this time.
As a result, Lambton College has cancelled all classes and on-campus activities for Friday, April 10th. The closure includes the Main Campus, Fire School, Skilled Trades Training Centre, EarlyON Child and Family Centre, and Community Employment Services. The Ottawa campus is not affected.
College officials say the safety of students, staff, and visitors is their top priority. They are working closely with police as the investigation continues.
Support services are available for students through the college’s counselling resources. More information is expected to be shared as it becomes available.
