Construction work is continuing on Main Street in South Huron, with a temporary road closure planned for this week.
Municipal officials say crews made good progress last week. Work included installing a temporary watermain, removing sidewalks and curbs on the west side of Main Street, and testing sewer bypass equipment. Crews have also started storm sewer work near the Ausable River.
Main Street is closed at the intersection of Main and Church Street as of 6:00 a.m. this morning. The closure is needed so crews can complete major underground work.
Detours will be in place, with traffic redirected using Huron Street, Thames Road, Airport Line, and Morrison Line. The road is expected to reopen before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1st.
During the closure, crews will complete sewer and watermain work at the intersection and add temporary asphalt before reopening the road. The temporary watermain is also expected to be in use once final testing is complete.
Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to plan ahead while the work is underway.
