The Municipality of Bluewater is preparing for the next municipal election, which will take place on Monday, October 26th.
Municipal elections in Ontario are held every four years, and this vote will decide the next council and school board trustees. The current term began in November 2022 and will end in November 2026.
In Bluewater, residents will be able to vote using internet and telephone options, making it easier to take part in the election.
To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on election day, and a resident, property owner, or tenant in Ontario. Your name must also be on the voters list for the Municipality of Bluewater. Residents can check, update, or add their information through Elections Ontario until August 12th. After September 1st, any changes must be made through the municipal office. Voter information letters will be mailed out in September with details on how to vote.
Anyone interested in running for council must meet the same eligibility requirements as voters and must not be disqualified under the Municipal Elections Act. The nomination period opens on May 1st and closes on August 21st at 2:00 p.m.
Advance voting will begin on October 13th, with election day set for October 26th. The new term of council will begin on November 15th.
The Municipality says updates and important information will be shared throughout the election period on its website, social media, and newsletters. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the municipal office.
