Communities across Canada are marking Emergency Preparedness Week, a national campaign that encourages people to be ready for unexpected situations.
This year’s theme is “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.” The focus is on helping people understand the types of emergencies that could happen in their area and what they can do to stay safe.
Officials say being prepared can make a big difference during an emergency. They are encouraging residents to take simple steps to protect themselves and their families.
This includes putting together an emergency kit with basic supplies such as water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, and batteries. People are also encouraged to make a plan so everyone in the household knows what to do and where to go if something happens.
Another key step is staying informed about local risks and emergency alerts. Experts recommend being ready to take care of yourself and your family for at least 72 hours if help is not immediately available.
Emergency Preparedness Week runs across the country as a reminder that planning ahead can help keep people safe when it matters most.
