It’s Mental Health Week, sponsored by: MTG North Games.
As Mental Health Week encourages people to take care of their well-being, one yoga studio is offering a fun and relaxing way to do just that, with the help of some friendly goats.
Linda Weir is an instructor at Laughing Goat Yoga Studio in Thorndale and has been part of the program since it first began nearly nine years ago.
Weir, a retired teacher and school administrator, says her background helps her connect with a wide range of participants.
Each class offers a mix of traditional yoga and playful moments with the goats. While participants can expect a real yoga session, the goats add an element of surprise.
Weir explains that yoga itself can help improve mental health by focusing on breathing and relaxation. When goats are added, it creates a more comfortable and welcoming space, especially for beginners.
Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace. They can choose to follow along with the yoga, spend time with the goats, or do a bit of both.
When the goats enter the room, the reaction is immediate.
She adds that interacting with the animals can have real benefits. Spending time with the goats can help lower stress and bring a sense of calm. It also reminds people to slow down and enjoy simple moments.
Weir says the message for Mental Health Week is simple: be kind to yourself, have fun, and don’t be afraid to try something new.
