Residents in South Huron are being encouraged to get ready for the 2026 municipal election, with voting set to begin this fall.
South Huron Clerk Alex Wolfe tells myFM what positions are up for grabs.
Two councillors will represent Exeter, two will represent Stephen Township, and one will represent Usborne. Residents will also vote for local school board trustees.
Wolfe says for candidates wanting to run, there is a rule.
An information session for anyone considering running in the election will also be held in Clinton on June 24th.
Wolfe says anyone planning to vote should make sure they are on the voters list ahead of time.
Residents can check, update, or add their information online through Elections Ontario. The municipality has also posted links and election information on its website.
Voting in South Huron will once again take place online and by telephone. Voting opens on October 13th and runs 24 hours a day until 8 p.m. on Election Day, October 26th. Each registered voter will receive a voter information letter in the mail with instructions and a personal PIN number needed to cast their ballot.
Wolfe says voter turnout is especially important on the municipal level.
Candidates interested in running for council must be at least 18 years old, eligible to vote in South Huron, and meet all requirements under the Municipal Elections Act. Nomination papers can be filed until August 21st.
Wolfe has a message for all residents as election season begins.
