OPP says it has finished its investigation into a fire at a secondary school in Wingham and is asking the public not to share unconfirmed information about the incident.
Police say emergency crews were called to F.E. Madill Secondary School on April 7th after a fire broke out between 8:30 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. One youth suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where they remain.
Investigators say their work has now concluded and no evidence was found that other people were involved. Police say there are no grounds for criminal charges and that the incident is considered isolated, with no ongoing risk to public safety.
The OPP is reminding the public that false or unverified information has been circulating online and is urging people to rely only on official sources. Police say sharing rumours, photos, or videos can be harmful to those involved and their families.
Officials thanked everyone who helped during the emergency response, including school staff and students, as well as local emergency services such as the North Huron Fire Department, Huron County Paramedic Services, and the Avon Maitland District School Board.
Police also remind anyone affected by the incident that mental health supports are available through local organizations and community services.
