The Municipality of Lambton Shores is celebrating another major achievement after Grand Bend Beach, Grand Bend Marina, and Port Franks Marina were all awarded the Blue Flag Canada designation for the 18th straight year.
The Blue Flag designation is an internationally recognized award given to beaches and marinas that meet high standards for environmental care, safety, cleanliness, and accessibility.
In 2026, only 13 beaches and 10 marinas across Canada received the designation.
Municipal officials say the award shows that local beaches and marinas continue to provide safe, clean, and environmentally responsible spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Blue Flag beaches must meet 33 different criteria covering areas such as environmental education, water quality, environmental management, and safety services. Beaches with the designation also regularly monitor water quality.
Marinas must meet an even larger set of standards, with 38 criteria focused on areas including environmental management, water quality, safety, community involvement, and corporate social responsibility.
Officials say earning the designation for 18 consecutive years highlights the continued work being done to protect local waterfronts and provide high-quality recreational spaces along Lake Huron.
