A vehicle owner has been charged after a driver failed to stop for a school bus in Lucan.
Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called to Saintsbury Line in Lucan-Biddulph Township at about 8:36 a.m. on May 22nd after reports that a vehicle passed a stopped school bus with its lights flashing.
Police say the driver was not identified. As a result, the owner of the vehicle has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to stop for a school bus.
The OPP is reminding drivers that yellow flashing lights mean a school bus is preparing to stop and motorists in both directions should get ready to stop as well.
When a bus has red flashing lights and its stop arm is extended, drivers in both directions must stop unless there is a concrete median dividing the road.
Police say passing a stopped school bus puts children at serious risk and can result in fines ranging from $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offence.
