An air quality warning has been issued for Goderich, Bluewater, and southern Huron County due to expected poor air conditions this afternoon.
Environment Canada says hot and sunny weather could lead to higher levels of ground-level ozone, which may cause air quality to reach moderate risk levels, with brief periods of higher risk possible later in the day.
Officials are advising residents to reduce or reschedule outdoor activities, especially sports and other strenuous events.
People may experience symptoms such as eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, or a mild cough. Those with existing health conditions, older adults, infants, young children, pregnant people, and those who work outdoors are considered more at risk and should take extra care.
Residents are encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible, keep windows and doors closed, and use air filtration if available. During hot conditions, staying cool indoors should be a priority.
Officials also recommend checking on vulnerable neighbours and family members.
Residents are reminded to follow updates from local authorities and Environment Canada as conditions may change throughout the day.
