Earlier this month, members of the community gathered with Pride Haldimand Norfolk outside Council Chambers in Simcoe to raise the Pride flag, marking the beginning of Pride Month with a message of inclusion, acceptance, and belonging. In light of recent events in nearby Norwich, that message carries even greater significance, underscoring the importance of creating welcoming communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.
As part of this year’s celebrations, Pride Haldimand Norfolk issued its 2026 Pride Month proclamation, recognizing June as a time to celebrate diversity and reaffirm the region’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
The proclamation notes that Pride Haldimand Norfolk has worked since 2017 to promote peace, equity, diversity and inclusion throughout Haldimand and Norfolk. It also calls for an end to hate-fueled violence against 2SLGBTQ+ community members while encouraging greater awareness and understanding.
The proclamation celebrates the contributions of Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender-diverse residents and encourages continued efforts to build a more visible, inclusive and connected community throughout Norfolk County.
