OneCare Home and Community Support Services is inviting residents to lace up their walking shoes and support a good cause at its annual Steps for Seniors walkathon this weekend.
The event will take place in Stratford on Saturday, June 13th, and in Clinton on Sunday, June 14th. Participants can walk individually or as part of a team while raising money to support OneCare’s transportation services.
Executive Director, Stephanie Ellens-Clark, said the organization provides a wide range of services that help older adults and people living with health challenges remain independent in their own homes.
The annual walkathon raises funds for OneCare’s Driven to Care campaign, which supports the organization’s transportation program.
The campaign aims to replace aging vehicles and help cover maintenance costs for the fleet.
The Steps for Seniors walk has a fundraising goal of $40,000 and is part of the larger Driven to Care campaign, which has a goal of $500,000.
People can register ahead of time at stepsforseniors.ca, where they can create a team, collect sponsors, and learn more about the event. However, those who decide at the last minute are also welcome to sign up on the day of the walk.
The events will go ahead rain or shine and will include more than just walking. Ellens-Clark says they have planned family-friendly activities such as games and face painting to help bring the community together.
As for what you need to bring with you? Ellens-Clark says just show up!
For those who are unable to attend, there are still ways to help. Residents can sponsor a walker, make a direct donation to OneCare, or even donate an unwanted vehicle through Donate a Car Canada, with proceeds benefiting the organization.
