OPP is reminding drivers that a stop sign means a complete stop as part of the ongoing “Stop. Look. Live.” road safety campaign.
The campaign aims to reduce serious and fatal crashes at intersections by encouraging safer driving habits and increasing enforcement across the region.
Police say so-called “rolling stops,” where drivers slow down but do not fully stop, can greatly increase the risk of a collision. Even on quiet roads or in familiar areas, dangers can appear suddenly, including approaching vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, or other road users.
The OPP is encouraging drivers to stop completely, look carefully in all directions, eliminate distractions, and pause before proceeding through an intersection.
Officers will continue enforcement efforts throughout the week as part of the campaign to help improve safety on Ontario roads.
