OPP is reminding drivers to give transport trucks plenty of space on the road as part of its ongoing “Stop. Look. Live.” road safety campaign.
Police say one of the biggest dangers at intersections occurs when drivers pull out in front of large commercial vehicles without leaving enough time or distance. Unlike passenger vehicles, transport trucks need much more space to slow down and come to a complete stop.
The OPP is reminding drivers to allow extra time and distance when sharing the road with transport trucks, especially on rural roads and higher-speed highways. Police also encourage motorists to stay alert, avoid distractions, and approach intersections with patience and caution.
Officials say even a brief moment of impatience or a poor judgment call can lead to a serious collision with life-changing consequences.
The OPP says taking a few extra seconds to stop, look, and make sure it is safe to proceed can help prevent tragedies and keep everyone on the road safe.
