The race for seats around the South Huron council table is beginning to take shape as candidates continue to file their nomination papers ahead of the 2026 municipal election.
Residents will head to the polls later this year to choose a mayor, deputy mayor, councillors, and school board trustees. While nominations remain open until August 21st, several familiar and new names have already entered the race.
As of 5pm today, the contest for mayor is currently shaping up to be a three-way race.
For deputy mayor, only candidate has filed nomination papers.
In Ward 1, voters currently have three candidates to choose from.
Meanwhile, Ward 2 is also seeing strong interest, with 3 candidates having filed nomination papers.
The list remains unofficial until nominations close and are certified by the Clerk. Candidates have until 2 p.m. on August 21st to file their paperwork, with nominations expected to be certified by August 24th.
With nearly two months still remaining before nominations close, residents can expect the field of candidates to continue growing as election season begins to heat up across South Huron.
