The Ontario government is highlighting local organizations in Huron-Bruce and supporting programs that help strengthen community connections, promote local food, and encourage seniors to stay active.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says these investments recognize the important role local groups play in building strong and welcoming communities.
She says organizations like Hansen’s Your Independent Grocer in Exeter, Southampton Foodland, and the Bluewater Active Living Centre all help make the region a better place to live by supporting residents and encouraging local engagement.
As part of the 2025 Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards, both Hansen’s Your Independent Grocer and Southampton Foodland have received a Silver Award of Merit. The award recognizes their efforts to promote Ontario-grown fruits and vegetables, support local food producers, and make locally grown products more accessible to customers.
The recognition highlights the important role local grocery stores play in supporting Ontario’s agriculture sector and connecting residents with food grown in their own province.
The Province is also supporting seniors programming through the Seniors Active Living Centre Program. The Municipality of Bluewater will receive $57,640 to support activities at the Bluewater Active Living Centre in Hensall.
The funding will help provide programs such as pickleball, yoga, craft workshops, card games, and walking groups. These activities are designed to help older adults stay active, social, and engaged in their community.
