Audiences at Lighthouse Festival Theatre will be the first in the world to experience Secret Service when the new Canadian comedy opens in Port Dover on July 8.
Written by Canadian playwright Ephraim Ellis, the fast-paced spy spoof is making its world premiere at the theatre before moving to Port Colborne later this summer. Director David Leyshon said Lighthouse Festival Theatre has built a reputation for developing new Canadian productions, making it the perfect place to debut the play.
Leyshon said directing a brand-new production gives the cast and creative team the freedom to build something from the ground up without comparing it to previous performances.
The comedy puts a Canadian twist on the classic spy genre, drawing inspiration from James Bond while replacing international espionage with familiar Canadian settings and references.
Leyshon believes the uniquely Canadian approach makes the comedy both familiar and fresh for audiences.
He describes Secret Service as a fun escape filled with laughs, adventure and memorable characters.
Performances run from July 8 to July 25 at Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover before the production moves to Port Colborne from July 29 to August 9.
