The Canada Day fireworks over Grand Bend are one of the community’s biggest traditions, but what many people don’t see is the weeks of work that go into creating the display.
Terrence Lumadue with K&H Fireworks has been helping create professional fireworks displays for more than 15 years. He says the Grand Bend show is one of the company’s largest Canada Day events.
Although the fireworks only last about 25 minutes, planning begins weeks in advance.
He says timing is one of the most important parts of the display. Some fireworks last only a few seconds, while others continue for up to 30 seconds. The team also layers different types of fireworks to create a show that is both bright and exciting from beginning to end.
Safety is another major focus for the professional crew.
Lumadue says K&H Fireworks uses sandbags to keep equipment secure and team members wear protective firefighting gear while setting up and firing the display.
While the work can be demanding, Lumadue says seeing the community enjoy the show makes it worthwhile.
He says it’s rewarding to know the fireworks help create lasting memories for families.
