With summer vacation now underway, Police are reminding residents to stay safe as more children, cyclists, and pedestrians head outdoors.
Constable Katherine Lockwood says drivers should expect to see more young people walking, biking, and visiting friends throughout the community. She is encouraging motorists to slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for pedestrians and cyclists.
Bikes are once again becoming a frequent sight on the roads and Lockwood has a familiar, but important safety message.
Lockwood says not wearing a helmet could be a costly choice.
With a stretch of hot weather expected, police are also reminding residents to drink plenty of water, wear appropriate clothing, and never leave children or pets alone inside a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
Lockwood says officers receive many calls each summer about pets left in hot vehicles and urges people to leave their animals at home if they cannot take them inside with them.
Police are also encouraging drivers to allow extra travel time during busy weekends, when increased traffic is expected throughout the area.
