Youth interested in protecting the environment will have a chance to get hands-on experience this summer as the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps returns to the Lake Huron shoreline.
The program, organized by the Lake Huron Coastal Centre, is entering its seventh year and will expand to Grand Bend for the first time.
The free program will be based at Oakwood Resort in Grand Bend and gives young people the opportunity to learn about Lake Huron while taking part in real conservation and restoration projects. Participants will help with activities such as dune restoration, plastic pollution prevention, coastal monitoring, plant identification, and invasive species removal.
Since launching in 2020, nearly 200 youth have participated in the program, contributing more than 6,000 volunteer hours to protecting and restoring the Lake Huron shoreline.
This year’s Coastal Conservation Youth Corps sessions will take place in Grand Bend from July 21st to 23rd, and Goderich from July 28th to 30th.
Youth can earn up to 18 volunteer hours through the three-day program while gaining experience, building their resumes, and helping protect the Lake Huron shoreline.
Registration information is available through the Lake Huron Coastal Centre website.
