Residents in Bayfield are being advised that the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) will begin flushing sections of the community’s sanitary sewer system later this month.
The work is part of a two-year maintenance program, with one portion of the system being flushed in 2026 and the remaining sections scheduled for 2027.
This year’s flushing will take place from July 27th to 31st.
The 2026 work will cover the area from Cedar Drive south to Victoria Street, between the lakeshore and Highway 21, as well as the west side of the Square and Blair Street.
Municipal officials encourage residents to check the annual sanitary sewer flushing map for the most accurate details on affected areas.
During the flushing process, residents may notice toilets bubbling. As a precaution, officials recommend keeping toilet lids closed while the work is underway.
The municipality is also reminding homeowners that installing a sanitary backwater valve can help reduce the risk of sewage backups. Residents who do not already have one may wish to contact a plumber about having one installed at their own expense.
Landlords are asked to share the notice with their tenants.
The municipality says future sewer flushing notices will be shared through its website, social media channels, and local newspapers, and individual notices may not be mailed.
Residents with questions can contact Manager of Public Works Dave Kester for more information.
