Young swimmers in South Huron have a new opportunity to build their confidence and prepare for future lifeguard training.
The Municipality of South Huron is offering its first-ever Junior Lifeguard Club this summer at the Exeter and District Pool.
Recreation Coordinator Maddie Ivatts says the program helps fill the gap between swimming lessons and the Bronze Medallion course, which is the first step toward becoming a certified lifeguard.
This is the first year the program has been available in Exeter.
Eight youth are taking part in this summer’s program, and registration is now full. Because of the positive response, the municipality hopes to offer the program again in the future.
Ivatts hopes the will inspire participants to continue their training and one day become lifeguards for the municipality.
More information about future Junior Lifeguard Club sessions and other aquatic programs can be found at southhuron.ca or by contacting the municipality’s aquatic staff.
