Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Exeter, Goderich, Bluewater, and Southern Huron County as a stretch of very hot and humid weather begins today.
Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 30 to 37°C, with overnight lows between 20 and 24°C. Humidex values could climb as high as 45. The hottest day is expected to be Tuesday, and the heat may continue until Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Health officials are reminding residents to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned or cool places when possible, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
People are also encouraged to check on older adults, those living alone, and others who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including headache, dizziness, nausea, thirst, dark urine, and extreme tiredness. Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has hot, red skin, call 9-1-1 immediately.
Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
